Staying put, among familiar faces
When a resident’s illness reaches its final stage, the kindest thing is often the simplest. No ambulance. No new building. No strangers. Your mother stays in her own room, with her quilt, her photos and the caregivers who have helped her dress every morning. The sounds of the house go on around her: the kettle, the radio, a neighbor’s laugh from the living room.
How hospice fits in
Peach Pointe is not a hospice, and there is no nurse on staff. We work alongside a separate hospice agency that your family chooses. The hospice nurse manages pain and symptoms, orders medications and equipment, and visits on a schedule. Our caregivers are here the rest of the time. We follow the hospice plan, give comfort medications as directed, with nurse delegation where needed, and call the hospice team when something changes. Families often tell us the two teams feel like one.
What comfort care looks like
- Gentle repositioning, mouth care and skin care, as often as needed
- Favorite foods in small amounts, or simply a cool drink when eating is done
- A quiet room, soft light, and the music she loves or none at all
- Help with bathing and dressing for as long as it brings comfort
- A caregiver who sits a while, holds a hand and notices

Caring for the family too
End-of-life care is for the whole family. You are welcome at any hour, and you can stay as long as you need. We will make you coffee, find you a chair and give you the room when you want it. We tell you honestly what we are seeing. If you have questions about what to expect, we answer them or help you ask the hospice team. If faith matters to your family, a pastor, priest or chaplain is always welcome here.
Talking about it early
Nobody enjoys this conversation, but it is easier before it is urgent. When a resident moves in, we ask about advance directives and a POLST form, and who should make decisions if she cannot. Those wishes go in the care plan. Later, when the time comes, there is no scramble and no guessing. We do what she asked, and we stay with her while we do it.
